Twerwaneho Members Storm Police Demanding Release Of Radio Panelists

The three radio panelists in Fort portal, who were arrested and
detained at police on Monday morning on allegations of defamation,
inciting violence and spreading harmful propaganda, have been released
on bond.

Portal municipality was detained on Monday after they were summoned to make statements.The three were released on Wednesday afternoon by Lawrence Okello,the acting Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigation Department Kabarole in the presence of their lawyers Johnson Musana and Victor Businge.Their release came after their lawyers and other members of Twerwaneho stormed the police demanding an explanation as to why their members were detained beyond the constitutional 48 hours and not charged in courts of law.“We need an explanation why our members were arrested and detained for over 48 years which is against the constitutional right. We want them released immediately or else we camp here. These are our activists and detaining them for long without taking them to court is infringing on their rights” They said.According to Police the trio while appearing on talk shows on Hits FM and Better FM radio stations they allegedly incited the people of Ntoroko district to rise up against the first son, Brigadier Muhoozi Kainerugaba and chase him out of Tooro Semuliki game reserve.They are also alleged to have referred to the First Lady and Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Janet Museveni as a thief who had embezzled funds meant for post-war resettlement activities in Northern Uganda. Police said that the panelists referred Mrs Janet Museveni as a “Rat”.This was during Mrs Museveni visited to the women groups Kabarole district and Tooro babies’ home on 28th and  29th   November, 2012 on
the invitation of the district woman mp Victoria Businge Rusoke.
The panelists are alleged to have said that Janet Museveni had misused the money in the office of the prime minister by flying to Israel nine times in just one month. They were cautioning what she was doing in Israel when the people in Northern Uganda were doing of hunger. Bakari Muga Bashir the Rwenzori region police publicity said the three suspects were granted bond on charges of defaming Janet Museveni , inciting violence and spreading harmful propaganda but investigations were still ongoing.
